Gleb Lubianskiy
Composer
I started making music when I was 16 years old. I used to hear a lot that it was too late to become a good musician: should have began as a kid. I proved them all wrong.
Being a self made musician for a long time, playing in different bands, taking private lessons in harmony and solfege has helped me to acquire diversity of experience.
Except for the performances, I’ve also always been keen on film music. It’s fascinating to do dramaturgy work, to experiment and to look for the new forms, to write music in various of genres. That’s exactly what I have hankered for.
However, there were no options for me to study as a film composer in Russia.
So the moment I got aware of the program started in Moscow Film School, I rushed there without doubts.
The head of the program is Yuri Poteenko who composed music for the following films: “Night Watch” and “Day Watch” directed by T. Bekmambetov, “Doctor Liza” directed by O. Karas, “The Spacewalker directed” by D. Kiselev etc.
While studying and working on my first projects, I came to realization that my disadvantages actually turned out to be my advantages.
A lot of things in contemporary music are tied up with a guitar and when you are, let’s say, “thinking as a guitar” that changes the nature of music completely and gives you a lot of opportunities for music and sound design.
My long way of independent research has helped to develop my own individual style, both the academic and technical knowledge that I received during the studying perfectly complemented it.
Also, concert experience has benefited me a lot. One of the most important skills in film music is the ability to work with musicians and create a comfortable atmosphere in the large crews. In fact, what you see as an orchestra is actually a huge rock-band.
Сurrently I’m working with quite diverse projects: arthouse and indie films, TV shows and series, advertisement, theatre, audio series, video games.
My solo project’s song has become the main theme of 8 spin-offs of the popular Russian TV show “Survivors” produced by one of the biggest Russian TV platforms Okko.
My music was performed by the Open Sound Orchestra in Mosfilm. It is one of the famous contemporary orchestras performing film music in Russia.
For coordination and full project support I’ve gathered a talented and reliable crew consisting of a music editor, a sound designer, musicians and voice over actors.
I desire to continue developing as a composer and musician and to solve more intricate extraordinary tasks.
